The Life Enrichment team at Touchmark’s Health Services Neighborhood is looking for a weekend volunteer to run small group and one on one activities with seniors with dementia and different physical limitations.

Katimavik's National Experience is an amazing opportunity for any Canadian citizens, permanent residents or landed refugees aged 17 – 25 who are looking for 22 weeks of creative learning, community engagement, Truth and Reconciliation, and self-discovery!

Participants will live in a group with up to 10 of their peers in two separate communities throughout the course of the program. During the program they engage in 32 hours of valuable volunteer work a week, learn how to manage a house, make lifelong friends, and gain confidence that they themselves can make an impactful difference in our country.

This is a fully funded opportunity where participants’ travel expenses, living accommodations, food costs, and daily needs are covered. All they will need to bring is their dedication, empathy, and commitment to making a better world!

Katimavik aims to help young folks become engaged, caring citizens and capable contributors and leaders for a better Canada. We do this through the development of 21st century skills, experiential learning, and civic engagement.

The HodgePodge Lodge is a community reuse building where people can drop off items they no longer need and take ones they do, all for free! The initiative is run by Strathcona County but the day to day operation is done by volunteers. They sort donations, put them away, tidy things up and answer questions the public has.

Youth In Care (YIC) is a specialized program categorized under the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring program. Volunteer mentors work specifically with youth in government care. Mentors share their time with a mentee through participating in a variety of activities that reflect the interests of both parties; it’s as simple as being a good friend to a young person. Mentors are matched with mentees with similar interests. Mentees are between the ages of 6-24.

The goal of YIC mentoring is to create healthy positive relationships for youth who may have experienced many transitions throughout their lives.
We believe it’s so important to be able to provide mentoring programs specifically for youth who have had involvement with Alberta Child and Family Services. Mentoring a youth in care has all the same impacts as mentoring through our other programs. Children with mentors experience incredible life benefits such as:

•Becoming 80% more likely to finish high school
•Increased confidence, self-esteem and sense of hope
•Less likely to engage in drugs and alcohol
•Improvement in relationships with adults and peers

The Master Composter Recycler Program is a learn and serve program that trains applicants to become community leaders in waste reduction. By taking the training, you are making a commitment to teaching friends, neighbours and coworkers to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost. In exchange for the 35 hours of training, you will volunteer for 25 hours in a wide variety of different roles, projects and opportunities.

Commonly known as the Big Brothers Big Sisters program or one to one mentoring. One mentor (Big) and one mentee (Little) spend time together building a friendship based on trust, support, common interests, and fun! Bigs and Littles participate in a variety of activities—everything from riding bikes, skating, reading, working on homework, cooking, playing video games to just talking and sharing with each other.
Mentees: Anyone between the age of 6 and 17. These kids just need a little extra support.

Locations: Edmonton, Strathcona County, Parkland County, Lac La Biche, Morinville, and St. Albert
Where: In the community at sporting events, festivals, coffee shops, swimming pools, libraries etc.
When: Evenings and/or weekends when the mentor and mentee are both available

ElderCare Edmonton is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing recreational therapeutic programming for seniors in the community.

Recreation Program Volunteers take part in the on-site facilitation of our day programs. This includes many things, such as playing physical games, guiding arts and crafts, and fostering meaningful conversation with our clients.

Our Day Programs operate out of three different locations across Edmonton, and volunteers are able to work alongside their supervisor to specify which location and time works best for their schedule.

The primary duty of the Online Program Host volunteer is to ensure that the Wellspring essence of welcome and care is translated to the online programming context. The Program Host is responsible for ensuring that the program runs smoothly from a technology side and that the Program Leader feels supported.

Front desk volunteers are the first point of contact for new and returning visitors as they arrive at Wellspring. Along with performing reception duties, they provide information and program registration

Front desk volunteers are asked to commit to a four-hour shift either bi-weekly or weekly, or commit to a flexible back-up schedule.
