WILDNorth is seeking enthusiastic people who love wildlife, the outdoors, and have a strong desire to learn and work well in a team environment. WILDNorth is a non-partisan, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured and orphaned wildlife and educates the public on the importance of wildlife in our community. We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% small mammals (squirrels, porcupines, fox).

Duties:

Working under the supervision of the WILDRescue Manager and Helpline Manager, interns will assist with the following:

Field and log phone calls from, and provide solutions to the public about wildlife concerns
Formulate effective strategies for wildlife capture in the field
Utilize nets and other equipment to capture wildlife
Physically handle wildlife
Facilitate the intake of wildlife patients, create online patient files, and transition the patients to the animal care team
Greet individuals upon arrival, accept donations and process merchandise sales
Drive to and from Wildlife Hospital and rescue locations
Coordinate with WILDRescue Manager and Helpline callers
Work cooperatively with other wildlife rescuers
Liaise with public and represent WILDNorth in a positive manner

Interns are required to follow all WILDNorth policy, procedures and protocols. Interns will also interact and work with other facility volunteers, summer students and casual relief staff.

Conditions

All positions are voluntary, no salary, housing, or transportation provided.

Location: Wildlife Hospital in Edmonton, with opportunities for offsite presentations and assignments

Hours: 20 hours per week

Start date: Beginning of May

WILDNorth is seeking enthusiastic people who love wildlife, have a strong desire to learn, and work well independently and with a team, to assist us in teaching the next generation about the importance of wildlife in the community!

WILDNorth is a non-partisan, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured, orphaned, and contaminated wildlife and educates the public on the importance of wildlife in our community. We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% small mammals (squirrels, porcupines, fox).


Duties: Working under the supervision of the Education Manager and the Social Media Manager, interns will

Deliver pre-determined in-class and or virtual science presentations to elementary students (grades 3-6)
Deliver pre-determined in-class and or virtual science presentations to junior high students (grade 7)
Research, create, develop, and deliver wildlife and or environmental education programming for a variety of age groups
Educate the public through wildlife related content (visuals, social media posts, videos, emails, or articles)
Host outreach booths at events (Edmonton Wildlife Festival / WILDRun) and interface with the public (dependent on in person events)
Film and photograph wildlife rescues (in the field) and patient care (at the Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre)
Assist Education Manager with various duties within the Education Program
Assist Social Media Manager with various duties as needed

Interns are required to follow all WILDNorth policy, procedures, and protocols

Location: Parkland County Rehabilitation Centre

WILDNorth operates out of two facilities. This internship will operate out of the Rehabilitation Centre. Our Rehabilitation Centre is in Parkland County (~5min North of Spruce Grove) and is not accessible by public transit. Our Wildlife Hospital is in Edmonton and is accessible by public transit. There will be the opportunity to cross-train between facilities through the summer.

We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% small mammals (squirrels, porcupines, skunks, foxes).

Duties:

Working under the supervision of the Director of WILDCare, WILDCare Manager, and appropriately identified staff, interns will:

Prepare species-specific diets; set up and take down captive care enclosures; administer some
medical treatments; maintain daily records.
Complete and track daily feedings, including hand-feeding young patients (As frequently as every
15min)
Assist in general facility cleaning, including patient enclosures, laundry, sweeping/mopping
floors, washing dishes, and disinfecting counters/sinks.
Assist staff in maintaining a safe and professional environment.
Lift and carry items up to 40 lbs, including garbage and recycling (Non-essential; please let us
know if this will be an issue for you).
Maintain a positive working relationship with coworkers, staff, and volunteers.
Additional duties as requested.

Interns are required to follow all policies, procedures and protocols at WILDNorth to ensure a high standard of animal care. Interns will also interact and work with other facility volunteers, summer students and casual relief staff on a regular basis.

Location: Rehabilitation Centre

WILDNorth operates out of two facilities. Our Rehabilitation Centre is in Parkland County (North of Spruce Grove) and is not accessible by public transit.

We are seeking people with good written communication, a computing / IT background, some knowledge of wildlife, and who work well alone or in a team environment to assist us in maintaining our database information during our spring/summer season.

WILDNorth is a non-partisan, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured and orphaned wildlife and educates the public on the importance of wildlife in our community. We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% mammals (squirrels, porcupines, fox).

Duties:

Primary Role: Work with the WRMD patient database to ensure accurate and timely updates to
patient disposition, location, and treatment notes. WRMD is an online patient management
software that allows us to keep track of many different aspects of care. This internship will focus
most of its time on collecting information from patient charts and updating this database. There
will also be ample opportunity to take part in animal care, of which the following duties
encompass.
Prepare species-specific diets; set up and take down captive care enclosures; administer some
medical treatments; maintain daily records.

Assist medical team with many aspects of animal care including: prepare species specific diets; set up and take down of captive care enclosures; assist with some medical treatments; assist with daily records
Complete general facility cleaning including laundry, sweeping/ mopping floors, washing dishes, disinfecting counters/ sinks
Hand-feed orphaned mammals and birds (can be as frequent as every 15 minutes)
Complete daily feedings
Clean and enhance enrichment of animal enclosures
Provide specialized waterfowl care
Assist with lab work (i.e. fecal analyses, hematology) as needed
Report maintenance and/or safety hazards to the staff and correct hazards if possible
Lift and carry items up to 40 lbs, including garbage and recycling
Assist with organizational or construction projects, as needed
Assist staff with rescues, supply pick-ups, patient transfers as needed
Maintain high energy levels throughout a long workday
Additional duties as requested

Interns are required to follow all policy, procedures and protocols at WILDNorth to ensure a high standard of animal care. Interns will also interact and work with other facility volunteers, summer students, veterinarians, and casual relief staff.
