Description:
We are looking for a volunteer coordinator for the Allendale Community League.
This position is a great entry-level opportunity for anyone looking to get involved in the community, meet their neighbours, and rack up some volunteer experience. No need to have experience in volunteer coordination! Just be willing to learn.
Tasks include (but are not limited to):
-Recruiting one-time volunteers to assist in setting up for, working at, and cleaning up events. (We have at least 4 major events per year)
-Creating occasional social media posts to advertise volunteer opportunities in the community and write short ads for our quarterly newsletter to recruit volunteers
-Coming up with other creative ideas to engage with residents and drum up interest in participating in community events (eg. joining the Community League Board, signing up for one-time shifts at events, etc.)
The position typically runs from May to May the following year, but we would like someone to hold the position ASAP until May 2025 (and beyond if you enjoy the position). Applicants are more than welcome to apply to other community league positions, shift to other positions (elections for most positions are in May), or ask for more one-off volunteer opportunities (eg. volunteering at our annual Pancake Breakfast).
Qualifications:
Applicants should be:
-A resident of Allendale neighbourhood
-Willing to commit some extra-curricular time to accomplishing goals related to increasing volunteerism our neighbourhood
-Willing to attend monthly board meetings (7pm on the third Wednesday of the month)
-Possibly attend community events in order to advocate for volunteering
-Friendly and able to engage community members and other board members
Training:
Come as you are!
Community League board members are willing to assist as needed and will provide a lay of the land. The communications director will be able to post social media content, the newsletter editor will be able to support the writing of ads, and other board members are willing to assist in any way they are needed.
