Volunteer Registry

Your Campus Connection

Description:

We are looking for a volunteer social and event coordinator for the Allendale Community League. This position is a great entry-level opportunity for anyone looking to get involved in the community, meet their neighbours, get creative, and rack up some volunteer experience. No need to have experience in program and event coordination! Just be willing to learn, as we will be there to guide you every step of the way. Additional volunteers will be available to execute the events, so you won't be carrying out events alone.

Tasks include:
-Prepping for and managing our 2025 Pancake Breakfast (May 2025)
-Prepping for and managing our Annual General Meeting (May 2025)
-If you are feeling up to it, our residents would greatly benefit from additional events and programs, such as a pub night, walking club, dog playdate in the park, senior's group, moms and tots, or other programs.
-If you choose to stay on past May, we would need you to prep for and manage our Community League Day (September 2025)

The position typically runs from May to May the following year, but we would like someone to hold the position ASAP until May 2025 (and beyond if you enjoy the position). Applicants are more than welcome to apply to other community league positions, shift to other positions (elections for most positions are in May), or ask for more one-off volunteer opportunities (eg. volunteering at our annual Pancake Breakfast).

Qualifications:

Event/program planning experience is an asset, but NOT required.

Applicants should be:
-A resident of Allendale neighbourhood
-Willing to commit extra-curricular time to planning events and accomplishing goals to increase our neighbourhood engagement
-Willing to attend monthly board meetings (7pm on the third Wednesday of the month)
-Have good planning and time management skills
-Friendly and able to engage community members and other board members

Training:

We will guide you on planning events, especially in the first year (if you choose to stay on after May).
Community League board members are willing to assist as needed and will provide a lay of the land. The communications director will be able to post social media content, the newsletter editor will be able to post event announcements, and other board members are willing to assist in any way they are needed. The current President and Vice President will be working with you directly to ensure that events are a success!

Benefits:

1. Meet your neighbours and establish community connections.
2. Gain valuable experience that can be carried on to work opportunities.
3. Need references for job opportunities?
4. Volunteer mostly remotely (planning, contacting vendors, etc.), and attend meetings and events in-person.
5. Help make Allendale a better place to live.
