Open Arms Patient Advocacy Society is seeking compassionate and motivated individuals to join our team as Advocates. We are a non-profit organization based in Alberta that offers free, confidential advocacy services to individuals struggling to navigate the healthcare system. Our volunteers empower clients to have a voice and support them through complex medical and social challenges.
As an Advocate, you will work directly with clients to help them understand their rights, explore available healthcare options, and connect with essential services. This is a unique opportunity to support real people and promote meaningful change in your community.
Qualifications:
Strong communication, active listening, and empathy skills
Ability to remain objective, respectful, and patient in sensitive situations
Interest in healthcare systems, patient rights, or social justice
Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential client information
Experience in healthcare, social work, or advocacy is an asset but not required
Must be 18+ and reside in Alberta
Clear Criminal Record Check (CRC) required
Training:
All Advocates receive comprehensive training on:
Healthcare navigation in Alberta
Patient rights and advocacy ethics
Communication and conflict resolution skills
Policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements
Ongoing support and supervision is provided by experienced team members
