Join CCI-LEX as a volunteer English teacher and empower refugees and newcomers with the language skills they need to succeed—all while gaining valuable teaching experience.
No teaching experience? No problem!
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Whether you’re new to teaching or have years of experience, we provide everything you need to succeed, including detailed lesson plans and a structured curriculum. You won’t need to create your own materials—just bring your enthusiasm!

We are currently looking for both online and in-person volunteers who can complete their training as soon as possible and commit to teaching on a regular basis beginning in September 2025. There may be opportunities for in-person volunteers ito teach in the summer months as well.
Your time and effort will create lasting change, giving newcomers the confidence and skills to build their new life in Canada.

Qualifications:
Fluency in English
Basic computer skills
Ready to teach a 2 or 3 hour class a week (or substitute teach 3-4 times a month)
Able to commit for minimum 6 months
Familiar with good volunteer practices
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older
Training:
We want all our volunteers to feel prepared and confident before stepping into the classroom. That’s why we’ve developed a flexible, supportive training program that adapts to your schedule and experience.
Training typically takes 12-17 hours over 4 to 6 weeks, during which you’ll:
-Observe experienced volunteer teachers in action
-Learn classroom management techniques and facilitation strategies
-Take part in team-teaching sessions to practice using our lesson plans and materials
-Receive helpful tips on working with adult ESL learners
-Get one-on-one feedback and support from experienced volunteers and Program Staff
