Your Campus Connection

Description:

Become a Unitea volunteer for 2026/27 academic year and connect with a welcoming community at the U of A. To learn more about our volunteer roles and how to apply, visit uab.ca/unitea. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and help create a sense of belonging on campus.

Qualifications:

Wellness Supports’ Unitea program is looking for U of A undergraduate and graduate students with strong people skills who want to help build a supportive campus community. You can apply to be a One-to-One Host, Collective Host, or Outreach Host. In these volunteer roles, you’ll spend about 15 hours each month supporting Unitea program activities and helping fellow students connect in meaningful ways.

Training:

- Community Helpers Program certification is mandatory. This certification is a recognized standard for individuals who provide mental health and wellness support, and it ensures that our volunteers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support their peers. If successful candidates do not have Community Helpers certification, they must take Community Helpers training no later than July 1, 2026. For more information and/or to register, visit: https://www.ualberta.ca/current-students/wellness-supports/mh-skills/community-helpers.html.
- Complete 22 hours of in-person training and Host Orientation.
- Regular mandatory team meetings and training during the academic year.

Benefits:

By volunteering with Unitea, hosts gain experience in supportive conversations, group facilitation, making resource referrals, planning and running outreach activities, and working as part of a team.
