Want to be part of a Canadian movement for ethical AI? Kodera is hiring for our Exec team!

At Kodera Canada (formerly Encode Canada), we are committed to empowering young Canadians with AI literacy, engagement in current affairs, and ethics education for a responsible digital future. Founded in 2021 as the Canadian chapter of Encode, a large US-based nonprofit, we have branched off into a vibrant community of students and AI enthusiasts across Canada. We deliver on our mission via three key mediums: Education, Publications, Events & Partnerships, all with the intent of connecting stakeholders across different facets of Canadian society.

Our open roles:
Education Director (1):

Lead the creation of a modular "education menu" of AI ethics/literacy topics, paired activities for high school workshops
Establish and maintain partner high school relationships alongside co-directors, handling workshop logistics.

Lead and prep a small volunteer team (recruitment, run-throughs, session planning) while aligning programming organizational objectives

Regional Education Coordinators (2-3):

Establish and maintain connections with high schools, presenting Kodera's workshop offerings to teachers and administrators and securing opportunities for delivery.
Assess the needs of schools and adapt AI ethics and literacy modules to fit the relevant grade levels, student demographics, and regional context.
Research/Writer (2):

Working with the Directors of Publications to research, outline, create, and design educational content about AI (either original content or a compilation of resources)
Assist in ongoing research article proposals/deadline management and planning

Events Coordinator (2-3):

Support the Events team to plan creative events that engage students with the current affairs in AI (such as our speaker series, and tea & talks)
Support the logistics of Kodera events (duties could include planning event content, creating room bookings, and writing speaker Q&A questions)

Knowledge of Canva is an asset

Social Media Coordinator (3):

Turn educational content into short form video content and infographics
Be outspoken and ready to reach out to the community

Track analytics, trends, and help grow our community

Experience using Canva is a requirement (or have prior transferable skills in visual design)

Partnerships Coordinator (1):

Participate in Kodera’s collaborative event coordination and stakeholder management
Work closely with the Events team to support speaker series and other external events.

Secure and maintain relationships with industry professionals, academic researchers, and policymakers working in the Canadian AI ecosystem for partnerships

Web Developer (1-2):
Design and develop user-friendly, responsive website
Identify and address bugs or issues that arise on website across browsers and devices, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted functionality
Knowledge in HTML, Tailwind CSS, React, Typescript and Figma is preferred but not required

Time commitment: Depending on the role, execs should be ready to commit 2-5 hours total per week.

Qualifications:

No experience in AI or policy is necessary to join Kodera: just a desire to learn and a passion for ethical innovation!

Requirements: Undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students studying in Canada. International students and recent grads welcome.

Training:

Onboarding will be provided by directors upon hiring.
