There is zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment in UASU elections. Discrimination and harassment can result in disqualification, as well as consequences under the University's Code of Student Behaviour and Student Conduct Policy. If you or members of your campaign experience discrimination or harassment, please use the Complaint Form above and/or contact the Chief Returning Officer at cro@su.ualberta.ca for more information about your options.
Initiating a Plebiscite or Referendum Question
There are two methods in which a question may be initiated. The first method is for Students' Council to declare a plebiscite or referendum will be held. The second method is for an individual member of the Students' Union to collect names, identification numbers and signatures of other members on a petition.
Plebiscite and referendum questions can only appear on the ballot of a general election. Plebiscite and referendum questions cannot be on the ballot of any by-elections. In order for a question to be placed on this year's ballot, a valid petition of signatures MUST be submitted to the CRO no later than the start of February. See Students' Union Bylaw 320 and Regulation 320.06 for some of the most important rules/date regarding plebiscites/referenda. Please contact the CRO for further questions.
If you are interested in proposing a plebiscite or referendum question, it is strongly recommended that you speak to the CRO as soon as possible, ideally in October or earlier, as there are many additional details surrounding plebiscites and referenda that you should be aware of well in advance.

Il existe deux méthodes pour initier une question. La première méthode consiste en Conseil étudiant à déclarer qu'un plébiscite ou un référendum sera organisé. La deuxième méthode consiste pour un membre individuel de l'Union étudiante (SU) à recueillir les noms, les numéros d'identification et les signatures d'autres membres sur une pétition.
Les questions de plébiscite et de référendum ne peuvent figurer que sur le bulletin de vote d'une élection générale. Les questions de plébiscite et de référendum ne peuvent pas être sur le bulletin de vote d'une élection partielle. Pour qu'une question soit placée sur le bulletin de vote de cette année, une pétition valide de signatures DOIT être soumise au CRO au plus tard au début du mois de février. Voir le statut 320 et le règlement 320.06 de l'Union étudiante (SU) pour les règles/dates le plus importants concernant les plébiscites/référendums. Veuillez contacter le CRO pour toute question supplémentaire.
Si vous souhaitez proposer une question de plébiscite ou de référendum, il est fortement recommandé de vous adresser au CRO le plus tôt possible, idéalement en octobre ou avant, car il existe de nombreux détails supplémentaires concernant les plébiscites et les référendums que vous devez connaître bien à l'avance.
