Hello/Bonjour!
My name is Angelina Botros (she/her) and I am in my third year in a BSc specialization in Immunology and Infection. I am currently running for a seat on the Student Council and General Faculties Council. My biggest goal is generating a sense of unity in the science faculty by encouraging what science is primarily based on: networking and collaboration.
My platform has four main focuses: portals for summer research programs, involvement with student EDI representation, encouragement toward student-led events, and expansion in the OneCard access initiative.
I believe that summer research, such as NSERC, should be more accessible via a unified online portal, thus allowing for easy access to all the information one needs to make an informed decision in collaboration with their PIs.
In order to push for more faculty-wide events, I intend to support our lovely science clubs through active communication, and advocate for supplementation in means necessary. By having more events, students could branch out to others from different sects of science, and make contacts that will benefit them in the future.
Finally, I aim to aid in the continuation of the OneCard access initiative, in which students are enabled to use their OneCards for building access, even after hours. This is our campus, we should be able to take up space!
With my experience in GFC and other student groups such as the University Teaching Awards Council and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, I want to use my communication skills to reach out to students and have their voices be heard.
Science student life is not easy, but I intend to ease it as much as possible.
Thank you/Merci beaucoup!
General Faculties Council (8 seats available)
Pedro Almeida
Hi fellow science students, my name is Pedro, I am a fourth year student in Immunology and Infection. I am hoping to have the chance to represent you next year in the General Faculties Council. Over the past few months, I have had the opportunity to sit on GFC through my role as Vice-President (Academic) of the University of Alberta Students' Union. My hope for next year is to continue some of the work I have done in GFC through UASU. For the past few months, I have been advocating to the University at GFC for improvements to the student experience, from issues with the Code of Student Behaviour, to concerns with proposed policies, navigating the change to a new Learning Management System and even textbook affordability.
I am hoping to bring my experience into the role of GFC Councilor, to continue to offer some meaningful change in the experience of students at the University, with a greater focus on the experience of students in the Faculty of Science by advocating on things mentioned above as well as other areas such as lecture recordings and class flexibility!
If this resonates with you, please vote for Pedro on March 20th and 21st!
