FAQ

How can I become involved with Sustain SU?

Sustain SU provides volunteer opportunities throughout the summer, and recruits Campus Sustainability Volunteers in September and January of every year. For more information on volunteering, or information of where to access the application form, visit this page or email us!

What can I recycle on campus?

Beverage containers: aluminum cans, juice boxes, milk cartons, and plastic and glass bottles. There are various receptacles for these. The Students' Union Building (SUB) has its main recycling station west of the food court, across from the InfoLink/Ticketmaster booth.

Egg cartons: the Campus Food Bank accepts both styrofoam and cardboard egg cartons. These are reused and given to clients.

What is the best way to effect change in my community, so that everybody understands how important it is to consider sustainability?

Get involved! Your voice is the most powerful tool that you have in raising awareness, encouraging change, and planning for a better future. Put yourself in a position to be heard.

What is an eco-discount, and where can I get one?

An eco-discount is money you save at vendors across campus for bringing a reusable food container or mug. The following is a list of the eco-discounts available on campus.

"Visit our vendors in SUB for daily discounts with reusable products"

Why do we not have more recycling bins on campus? Can Sustain SU get more recycling bins?

Strong efforts have geared towards having more recycling bins around the campus. During the renovations, SUB will have a number of Zero Waste stations located around the building, replacing the stand alone garbage bins. Hooray!! These stations will include receptacles for recycling, composting, and waste. To learn more about how you can help us share tips on proper waste diversion, contact Sustain SU or become a Campus Sustainability Volunteer! Applications become available in September and January.

Where can I compost on campus?

There is a black bin in the SUB food court located at the waste disposal receptacles and sink area. When dining in SUB, please dispose of food scraps here.

If you'd like to compost your household food waste and live on campus, please feel free to bring your compostables to Sustain SU's Campus Community Garden located on 89th Ave & between 110th & 111th St.
