The Nitohtamowin Program
The Nitohtamowin program formerly known as the Indigenous Leadership Program is for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students that seeks to strengthen leadership processes in alignment with Indigenous world views. Through workshops, speaker events, exercises, and panels, the program is approached from an ethic of kinship to discuss topics of leadership, such as self-understanding, conflict management, and community empowerment.
Nitohtamowin translates to the act of listening in the Plains Cree Language. Indigenous undergraduate students at the University of Alberta are encouraged to attend presentations by Indigenous community leaders, knowledge keepers and students. To further their understanding on the meaning of Leadership in Indigenous communities. This program is available in fall 2023.
