Access Fund
Think of the Access Fund first!
The Students’ Union Access Fund offers non-repayable financial assistance for undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. We provide assistance to students who are either ineligible for student loans, have reached the maximum in their student loan amounts or simply do not have access to sufficient funding.
The Access Fund is administered as part of the Supplementary Bursaries program through the Registrar's Office. If you need assistance, please contact the Student Service Centre, which is located on the main floor of the Administration Building.
Access Fund Successes
Year after year, the Access Fund has been able to provide aid for students who have reached the limits of their student loans and other financial resources.
The Access Fund distributed $1.3 million to 542 students between May 2015 and April 2016.
Fees
The Access Fund is funded through a dedicated fee. Per-term fee amounts are listed here.
How are these fees calculated?
We take an average of the actual bursaries granted over the past three years & the cost of administering the fund. We are actively drawing down our reserve accounts.
What about opting-out?
The Access Fund is a voluntary contribution. Students' Union bylaw allows any student who is either philosophically opposed to this fee, or cannot afford it, to have their fee rebated to them. Students who choose to opt out must opt-out online each term during the opt-out period.
Please keep in mind that if you have received Access Fund funding in the past, you cannot opt out of the program. If you opt-out, you will not be able to apply to the program.
Opt-outs will be processed onto the students' ONEcard accounts.
